So you have probably arrived here because of a common problem that occurs with laptop users. You type something and instead see numbers and symbols appearing. This appears more when you type on the RIGHT side of the keyboard, away from qwerty.

are these some errors you notice?

RELAX.. this is no big problem, you might have just pressed NUMLK or NUM LOCK key sequence by mistake.

In ASUS EEE pc laptops and netbooks, it is the FN + NumLK  key sequence.

FN key is in the left bottom area of your keyboard. NumLK is in the top right corner.
Hold them down together to release the number lock and your typing will become fine again!!

INCY submits new Drug Application

Incyte Corp, encouraged by data from ruxolitinib for mylefibrosis, submitted a new drug application NDA to the FDA, requiring priority review.

This puts INCY and Novartis NVS substantially ahead of YMI Biosciences (YMI) if approval goes through in the right time frame.

Upgrade AFFX MDCO YMI

We believe that Affymetrix is a potential takeover target in view of the general consolidation in the instrument/analytical sector. A potential takeover price would be about

YMI biosciences YMI, reported orphan drug designation being granted to its JAK1/2 inhibitors in Europe. while the stock was up in pre market, it has been taken down after market open - maybe based on profit taking/smart ways of lowering price and getting in by interested Wall st firms. These are the firms that release PR upgrades and downgrades to sell or buy respectively.


MDCO has been seeing improving volume and price action and if you check earlier posts on this blog (using the label) you will note the takeover speculation possibility.

SUPG (now ASTX) is seeing suddenly increased volume on the last day of the month. I don't know if that is window dressing or real action

Racing Updates

So my weekend hobby is turning to be Horse racing and playing the odds.

This is  how it worked out this weekend.

I betted on five different races:
Came out tops in 3 of them. In one race, I lost some money and in one I just made my money back. Overall, my bankroll improved slightly, but more importantly I learned some key lessons about not playing too many exotics/not diversyfying too much and about not meddling with good analysis at the last moment. They key race was of course, the Met mile at the Belmont.


I had bet $3 dollars (PLACE) on Rodman in the Met mile classic - but scratched the bet at the last few minutes - and missed out on a good good payout. :(. Oh well.

I did bet a Place on Tizway too in the same race and that paid good! My place on exotic box using Caixa & Aikenite as well as a Win bet on Caixa did not pay :( . Aw shucks.

Why I went LONG on VRTX Pharma (Verrtex)

Got approval for Hepatitis C drug.

Good pipeline on Cystic fibrosis root cause treatment - Ataluren VX770. NDA filing probably in late 2011.
VX770 also may address other mutations etc.

VX809 in Phase II. Vertex receive a five year grant of $75 million for VX661 studies.

I have a gut feeling that there may be some surprise findings (positive) down the line which would help more. (Source - Chemical Engineering News)

Just like my gut feeling on Astrology and Shackleford paid off in a money double at the Preakness. (I also betted on Animal Kingdom). Note that I bet "show" on all 3 - a very conservative bet. Even still I made a double trying horse race wagering the first time ever. (results)
Shackleford paid $27.20, $10.20 and $6.80.
Animal Kingdom returned $4.20 and $3.60. Astrology paid $8 to show.

Disclosure - Note: I also bet on Mucho Macho Man to place, but I lost all my money on that one. In all, 3 out of 4 horses were in the money - and I feeling GOOD.
