Celldex sees a Spike
Celldex is seeing some bullish action today with a volume spike (~10k shares) during the day.
This was accompanied by a rise in option volume with over 90 march $4 calls being traded and large open interest in $4 and $5 march calls. A point of concern however is that there seems to be large Ask vs bid for the calls - so it might indicate a large stock buyer trying to lower the cost by selling costs.
CLDX is reporting earnings early March.

Smart but Risky Trading
- Identify stocks that have good fundamentals (decent balance sheet, steady improvement in eps or constant over multiple quarters etc)
- Look for those with high short interest among these.
- Now look for news, estimates and clues etc. Read general news in the sector, other news that might affect the business's future earnings etc.
- Figure out which stocks might have a higher chance for surprise earnings. Look also at technical cues from volume trading
- Pick the few best ones, decide a good trading strategy for all scenarios: Rise, Fall and Sideways.
- Once the plan is ready, then and then only, trade the plan.
- Do not trade it in the first 15-20 mins of the day (too risky).
- Make sure triggers are met. Also make sure that your stop losses are in place with limit losses

Tesoro Corporation (TSO) will have it earnings announcement today Feb 2, 2011 (after market close). Average analyst estimates point to $ -0.07 (7 cent loss) per share. This blogger is going to go out on a limb and predict a smaller loss at -$0.01 (1 cent loss) per share. You can listen to their webcast tomorrow morning at 730 am CST here

Shutterfly is a small cap online photo printing and products seller. The stock has seen some insider buying recently after it got beater down quite a bit. Also, today (5/29) the stock gapped and made new highs in the last 6-7 weeks. Having broken through resistances at 13.50 or so, now the stock is going to keep climbing. Wall St.Analyst upgrades and Actual news annoucements will follow soon after!! (as usual) I think this stock has lot of potential to go up organically or due to a takeover.
